The End Is Nearing

Both of us owners hate to feel this. The end is coming nearer and nearer each day for Herbie. :( Though she is still as adorable (albeit aged) and bubbly as usual, we can't help but sigh at her belly lump that has swelled to half her size. (T_T) Herbie is slightly irritated by the growth hindering her movement that makes her unable to climb up her cage grills anymore. But we will bring her out by transporting her through her food bowl. However, I have reservations of letting her walk around the floor now as I am very afraid of infection since the growth will be dragging on the ground surface.

We are bracing ourselves that both Herbie and Scar are at their old age stage, in the meantime to treasure our time with them while we can.

this is heartbreaking :(

I now suspect that all the hamsters in our petshops have been inbred until they are not healthy. My hamsters spotting lumps too :(

We recently adopted three hamsters. May I know how to bath them? We bought bathing sand for them but they are not interested and they smell bad. Can you teach me? Tks

hoping poor little Herbie can spend her old age as comfortable and happy as possible. It is so hard for hamster owners, every 2 years or so, we have to mentally prepare for the inevitable T_T

hey Edith, I bath my hamster using Simple brand of facial wash (it's PH neutral and no scent). Avoid face area. You have to be quick as hamsters hate water and will likely struggle. Recommended to bath them by one by one. After that, dry your hamster with a towel. Place a clean sand bath (the coarse type, not flour-fine type) and they will likely dry themselves inside. Do not place the cage in aircon or windy area, as the hamster may catch a cold. HTHs

My thanks to all. Herbie as the usual hamster mentality is still enjoying life. She is getting scrawny but still eating and can still climb up her loft. I hope she can last as long as she can cos' she is such a likeable hammie.

Edith - sorry for the late reply as I'm out of town. Like what Noobcook says, bathe them under normal room temperature and quickly dry them. For me, I use the hamster shampoo bought in petshop. I do not use bath sand as it is rather messy to clean. I seldom bathe them as most of the hams I have are quite 'self-cleaning'. =D Only bathe them when they soiled themselves.

Noobcook - Simple is what I'm using for facial wash. Lolz.
