Granpa Chiko

I love Chiko. <3 He is the father of all our hamsters. He was also a grandpa too. It's sad that he never had the chance to see his grand kids because they were born at someone else's place and the kids were given to a petshop. :( Despite being a gramps, he is still strong and healthy. He really got good genes and we really hope that his genes will continue in the bloodline. My poor Chiko lives monotonously alone eversince his beloved mate Naughty passed on.

Chiko mousey, this is the 3rd year you are with us for Christmas. I wish you well and stay healthy. I hope you'll stay happy while we continue to provide you the love and care which now Naughty could not. She should be happy up at Sunflower Valley looking down on you. You two are so lovey dovey that death parted the both of you. We here however wish you could be with us forever.

Mating Season Part II

Welcome to the "Love Hotel" hammies. Here, you find the super suite costing $30.02/night. There is a free wheel for you to run the whole night. A wooden ladder for you to see the scenery from high-up, and of course, a cozy cotten bedroom fit for two.

Also, we serve you a complimentary treat of citrus muffin, top with raspberry crossys and honey cornflakes. Life is good for a hammie eh?

The two kid were so excited that they explore every corners of the house.

The two of them then proceed to take a rest in the bedroom. Mission accomplished!

Then in the middle of the night, a quarrel broke out again. Oreo and Retardy both vying for the wheel. Oreo lost to Retardy and then kick Tardy outside the bedroom. Poor Retardy sleep on the wooden ladder the whole night. *The instigator give up and fainted on the floor*

Mating Season Part I

I came back home to a glum-looking Retardy slumping over the ceramic bowl. Hmmm, I wonder why my Retardy is so quiet today? He looked grumpy, 'sianz 1/2' and nonchalent to the surrounding. "Yo mousey?" He SNUBBED me! How dare you little.... o(>.<)o

"Ooii, look at me!"

He's normally super jumpy when he sees me and will try to wiggle his way up. This time round, he didn't even bother to move. -.-" Oreo mousey was nowhere to be found. Upon further investigation, she hid in the bedroom, camouflaged by the cotton. Sensing my presence, she ran out to greet me. Then jumping up and down saying: "Please let me outta here. Let me out!" (o.O)

Oreo: "Pls help me!"

So when the two met together, Retardy must has been aroused and so he started his move. Oreo has been dodging his advances. And since I was around, the instigation started. I removed the bedroom so Oreo has nowhere to hide and Retardy back into his active self decided to try his luck.

And all along I have been video-tapping the process. Geez, I felt like a baddie doing a porno on the hamsters. :p Tough luck. Oreo was too fast for Tardy. In the end, Tardy didn't get it. He's back to his glumpy self gain, slumping over the metal bowl. Now I get it. No wonder you are in such lousy mood, Oreo never give. Buahaha.

Tardy: "Shuddup, leave me alone!"

My mousey scold me. Son, you must be a man like your dad Chiko! (T_T)

For my little DLLG

We lost our little precious to its most fearful predator, the cat. LL died in a very ugly manner with dismembered body.

We officially announce this Christmas will be a mourning day for our little LL. And in the name of L, I vowed to protect the other kids from this predator. None of my mousey should die this way! The cats will officially in our blacklist from now on.

Product Review: Books about Hamsters

Though in this era, information can be obtained from the internet. Better yet, check in forums and interact with others, ingexperiences. But somehow, knowledge in the traditional way still come from books. Personally, I recommend these 3 books are a hamster owner 'must have'.

Training Your Pet Hamster - Gerry Buscsis & Barbara Someville

It encompass some good information on how to basic-train the hamsters. Some good instructions on how to potty-train them, getting them to react to your calling and leash-walking these tiny rascals.

My say: The procedures worked more on Syrian hamsters, but on dwarfs, it's kindda hard to potty train them. More likely they use the toilet as their bedroom. Dwarfs totally hate leashes. Mine has since thrown away! But the knock-knock technique is a very good way to let the hamsters familarise you.

Dwarf Hamsters - Sharon L.

Provides info about all the species of dwarf hamsters. From Roborovskis to Winter Whites to Campbells and to the rare Chinese hamsters. This book introduced from the origins of each species to their behaviours, as well as the mating process for each species. It also teaches on the handling of these tiny ones.

My say: Many owners often confuse on differentiating the species. This book provides a good guide to catergorize the hamsters. It specifically address on the behaviours on each species, very useful for the owners to identify. Apart from that, it consists precise info pertaining to dwarfs only.

Hamsterlopaedia - Chris Logsdail, Peter Logsdail & Kate Hovers

This book encompass all types of hamsters, from Syrian to dwarfs. Specifying the hamster symptoms and illness from A-Z. It also provide detailed anatomy of the hamsters. Massive information is available on the mating process and the outcome of the mating. This provide breeders good knowledge on breeding. Overall, this book contains alot of scientific information.

My say: Very detailed and scientifically explains. The A-Z gives owners a good guide to identify the health of their hamsters. A good book that the owners will find handy.

All books are found in Amazon[dot]com.

Retardy Retardy Retardy

A trip down memory lane when the 3 Retardies are still babies. Here's a short vidz of them when they were young.

Treetop Garden

The new Habitrail carboard design sure is good to create a playground for the hamsters. It reminds me of Maple Story. It just looks like the backdrop in those Maplestory forest. And my mouseys now have a treetop house and a playpen that they can enjoy for hours. :)

Here's a short video of Ruddie in exploring the playground.
